Sunnyvale Greening
The calendar is rich with Earth Day opportunities this month! There is so much going on that SunnyvaleCool has cancelled our meeting next week. Our city government and Sustainable Community Gardens are organizing:
- information sessions on Green Business Certification (also appropriate for schools and churches), cloth diapering choices, Zero Waste Policies, composting and Green Remodeling;
- outdoor Earth Day celebrations at Full Circle Farms, the Sunnyvale Farmers' Market and Charles Street Gardens;
- City-wide garage sales; and
- formal City Council meetings honoring our Certified Green Businesses.
All this without leaving the city limits! And admission is free at all the above events. Many of these events are posted on SunnyvaleCool's "upcoming events' sidebar. A complete listing of the events organized by city government can be found at: EarthDay.inSunnyvale.com
Also, for those wishing wander beyond the city boundaries with some money to spend, the Silcon Valley Leadership Group, Sustainable Silicon Valley, SolarTech, ABAG, PG &E and Akeena Solar will sponsor a Solar Summit, featuring Jerry Brown, Chuck Reed and other leaders discussing how to promote widespread solar power adoption http://svlg.net/events/solarsummit0423/ . SSV will also host events on Water and Green Teams (groups that green an organization) later this month. Details at: http://www.sustainablesiliconvalley.org/
Finally, the international conference I have been looking forward to all year convenes in San Francisco next week. Visionaries from all over the world will address "problems of the world's environment with thoughtful long-range solutions that are truly sustainable, ecologically healthy and socially just." http://www.ecocityworldsummit.org/index2.htm
Please support as many of the events as you can, have a good time, and use Earth Month to keep on learning how we can work together to help protect our precious planet. Opportunities abound.
